This research examines the effect of the flipped learning approach with TED Talks support on discourse management, particularly thematic development, coherence, and cohesion in the EFL students' speaking performances at a Vietnamese university. Fifty-seven English-major participants who were divided into an experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG) completed pre- and post-speaking tests. The data were analyzed using independent and paired sample t-tests, as well as ANCOVA. The results showed significant improvements in the EG in all three dimensions of discourse management, with high effect sizes, confirming the pedagogical value of using authentic input in combination with active and learner-centered practices. The study additionally proposes practical implications for curriculum design and language teaching as well as limitations and recommendations for future studies.
