Social media is widely used for various purposes in the modern world. This paper contributes to the literature by exploring the impact of social media on English language learning from the perspective of English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ perspective. A survey questionnaire was administered to university EFL students to determine their perceptions of various social media platforms. The sample comprised 118 female students in a Saudi university. The results demonstrated that the students generally had positive attitudes towards using social media for learning English. Thus, using social media in language-learning settings is likely to be perceived positively by students. This preliminary study provides insights into using social media for EFL learning purposes and makes a valuable contribution to EFL teaching and learning.
