This qualitative study examines how Sherniyaz Zharylgasuly characterizes Isatay Taimanov, the leader of the liberation uprising, and demonstrates his embodiment of the warrior-hero archetype reflecting the historical and cultural essence of Kazakh society in the early 19th century. Using characterization techniques such as embossing, consistency, typification and contrast, Sherniyaz creates a multifaceted and morally courageous character, symbolizing resistance to oppression and the defense of national dignity. The comparative analysis with other significant literary works confirms the archetypal consistency of Isatay as a heroic leader and defender of the people. While Sherniyaz Zharylgasuly emphasizes Isatay’s military prowess and moral integrity, Makhambet emphasizes his spiritual sacrifice and broader social ideals, and Shorekov and Yershu portray him as a defender of honor and a voice of vengeance. Such images enhance the psychological depth and social significance of Isatay’s character, highlighting the enduring cultural relevance of the warrior hero archetype in Kazakh literary and historical memory. They also illustrate how artistic narratives can serve to reconstruct a historical figure, embody collective values and address themes such as justice, leadership, and national identity. Sherniyaz Zharylgasuly’s poetry, situated within this broader literary tradition, affirms the crucial role of poetic discourse in preserving and reviving Kazakh heroic heritage, enabling a better understanding of the interplay of history, literature and cultural identity in Kazakhstan’s literary heritage.
